Food Sovereignty Initiative

The Food Sovereignty Initiative (FSI) was supported by the Foundation for Black Communities (FFBC) Black Ideas Grant (BIG). Through FSI, the BGSN hosted African-Caribbean grocery pop-ups, offering accessible, affordable, and culturally appropriate foods to the BGSN community.

Childcare Stipend Initiative

The Childcare Stipend Initiative (CSI) was funded by the Foundation for Black Communities (FFBC) Black Ideas Grant (BIG). Through CSI, the BGSN provided stipends to Black graduate students with children, helping to offset childcare costs and support their academic and professional pursuits.

Short-Term Housing Initiative

Funded by the UBC Community University Engagement Support (CUES) Fund, the BGSN partners with Hogan's Alley Society (HAS) and Canada Homestay Network (CHN) to deliver the Short-Term Housing Initiative, matching incoming Black graduate students with Vancouver host households to ease their housing search and transition.

Black Graduate Spotlight Initiative

Supported by the UBC Strategic Equity and Anti-Racism Framework (StEAR) grant, the Black Graduate Spotlight Initiative will provide six financial awards to Black graduate students. Award recipients will present their work at an interdisciplinary symposium this October, highlighting Black-led and Black-focused scholarship and fostering dialogue on its significance and impact at UBC.
